Author Guidelines

General
The Nigerian Journal of Science publishes original results of research in any field of Science. Only papers for exclusive publication in the Journal are considered. Use of the International system of units (SI) is required.

Ethical Guideline
Manuscripts submitted for publication in NJS must not be submitted to any other Journal concurrently.

Reporting Guideline
Responsible reporting of research studies, which includes a complete, transparent, accurate and timely account of what was done and what was found during research study, is an integral part of good research and publication practice and not an optional extra.

Submission of Papers
The original typed manuscript must be submitted through the Association’s online submission portal. Manuscripts must be in English or French. The entire paper, including byline, abstract, text, references, and figure captions, must be typed double spaced, using A4 size paper with 2.5 cm margins at top, bottom and sides. Manuscripts should be send manuscripts to: https://scienceassociationofnigeria.org/journal/public/login

Instructions on uploading manuscript
The authors should load a separate page containing only the manuscript title and abstract. The full length manuscript containing the title, affiliation and the entire report should also be loaded as a separate page.

Byline
Author’s name and complete mailing address (without abbreviations) must be supplied and should be placed immediately below the title.

Abstract
An abstract of not more than 300 words is required. In a single paragraph the abstract should state the nature of the investigation and summarize its important conclusions. References should not be cited in the abstract.

Footnotes
No footnotes may be used except for recent changes of address footnoted to the byline. All other material, however parenthetical it may be, must be incorporated into the text or, if appropriate, into the acknowledgements.

Length of Papers
Papers should be written in the most concise form. Typical length of an accepted paper is 10-15 pages plus a maximum of 5 figures.

Diagrams
Line drawings should be made with Indian ink on plain tracing (transparent) paper or other suitable material, but not on graph sheets and should include all relevant details. All lettering, graph lines and points on graphs should be sufficiently large and bold to permit reproduction when the diagram has been reduced to a size suitable for inclusion in the Journal. The total size of an original diagram should not normally exceed 22 cm × 35 cm. Dye-line prints or photocopies are not suitable for reproduction.

At the back, all illustrations and mounted photographs should be clearly identified by author’s name and title of manuscript. In the case of line drawings, only one set of original need be sent along with two copies suitably reproduced.

All figures must be cited in the text, and numbered consecutively with Arabic numerals. Legends for all illustrations should be provided on a separate sheet. Figures should be high quality (1200 dpi for line art, 600 dpi for grayscale and 300 dpi for colour, at the correct size). Figures should be supplied in one of our preferred file formats: PS, JPEG, TIFF, or Microsoft Word (DOC or DOCX) files are acceptable for figures that have been drawn in Word.

Tables
Each table should be numbered with Arabic numerals, have a brief title, and be referred to in the text. In the interest of economy and in order to avoid the introduction of errors, tables will be reproduced by photo-offset means directly from the author’s typed manuscripts. Therefore the total size of a table should not exceed 20 × 28 cm.

References
In the text: Each entry in the reference list must have citation in the text. Citations are enclosed in brackets and include author’s name and year of publication (Akintonwa, 1963, Olorunda and Aworh, 1984, Itam et al., 1985), unless the author’s name, Akinsanmi (1983), is part of the sentence. Two or more publications by the same author in the same year are distinguished by a, b, c, etc., after the year (Eka, 1979a,b). Personal communications and unpublished manuscripts may be cited in the text within parentheses (E.A. Aduayi, personal communication, 1979), but are not included in the reference list.

In the Reference list: References should be arranged in alphabetical order of authors’ names, at the end of the text. Multiple entries for a single author are arranged chronologically.

For a journal article, follow author’s name with year of publication, full title of article, title of journal (written out in full or abbreviated according to the form in the world List of Scientific Periodicals), volume number and issue numbers, both beginning and ending page numbers of the article.
